Often only thought about for commercial spaces, swivelling lounge chairs can be a great option for residential projects too. They were a fantastic option for the open living space shown on my last project. Here I have put together a selection of some of my favourite swivel lounge chairs for residential projects.
Scandi Comfort

Little Big - Norr 11
A new chair designed by Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl for Danish design brand Norr 11, this cute little chair’s soft lines and curved embracing back leads to a very enticing little sitting spot.

Pacha - Gubi
Designed originally in 1975 by legendary French designer Pierre Paulin, Gubi have re-realised the Pacha chair into their collection.
With its relaxed low sitting position and rounded comfy form, the Pacha Chair makes a fantastic lounge chair for a relaxed sitting area. It works particularly well when upholstered in a boucle fabric like Karakorum from Dedar which gives it even more of a cozy feeling.

La Pipe - Friends & Founders
Like the previous two chairs, the La Pipe Lounge chair designed by Ida Linea Hilderbrand has a comfortable embracing form but it also has a slightly more refined and elegant feel. The back has a thinner profile with lines curving right down to the base.

Hi Turn - Bensen
This chair is manufactured by the Canadian company Bensen but the Scandinavian influence of designer Niels Bendtsen is clear – so it's made it into the Scandi comfort list.
The form is a little different from the last three chairs with its straighter, more formal lines and high backrest. But with its down-filled seat cushion, headrest and hidden swivel this would still work well in a residential interior.
Unexpected Lines

Magnum - Sancal
This is a bit of a curve ball due to its bold appearance but I wanted to include it for this reason.
Designed by Spanish designer José Manuel Ferrero the shape of the chair is based on the shape of a cognac glass. The seat sits on top of a plinth base that can come in an array of finishes and colours, meaning you can really make a statement with the final appearance.

Mia - MDF Italia
This chair designed by Francesco Bettoni is very unusual due to its shape. It's rare to find a homely chair that swivels in this shape. As you can see from pretty much all of the other options, swivel chairs tend to be curved. However, this chair has a compact, boxy shape that would suit a more modern interior.

Husk - B&B Italia
Designed by Patricia Urquiola it's one of the only chairs on the list that has an exposed swivel base. I think generally exposed bases on swivel chairs are more suited to commercial spaces but the Husk is an exception to the rule. With its hard outer shell and super padded seat cushion, it really is a chair that gives you a big hug. Perfect for lazing back and relaxing.

Derby - Zanotta
This chair designed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is made for a clean, modern and sleek interior.
Its external structure clearly takes inspiration from saddles, upholstered in thick hide leather giving way to a contrasting fabric seat. It can come with a matching ottoman just to round off the comfort.
The Classics

Eames Lounge Chair - Vitra
Designed by Charles and Ray Eames in the 1950s, it was designed with the aim of combining an elegant appearance with ultimate comfort – and to this day it doesn't disappoint. It is produced by Vitra using virtually the same production methods since those used in the 1950s. Instantly recognisable, it really is one of the modern classics.

The Egg Chair - Fritz Hansen
Designed by Arne Jacobson in the 1950s for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the Egg has gone on to be one of the most well recognised designs out there. Often upholstered in leather, it can also be upholstered in fabric which will soften it to suit a wider range of residential interiors.
